Thailand Allows Tourists To Convert Cryptocurrency to Baht
Thailand has taken a pioneering step in digital asset integration by permitting foreign tourists to convert cryptocurrencies into baht. The policy, announced by Deputy Prime Minister Pichai Chunhavajira, targets tourism revitalization and local currency adoption. A monthly cap of 500,000 baht applies, with conversions exclusively through the regulated TouristDigiPay platform.
The Bank of Thailand mandates strict KYC compliance for participants, restricting eligibility to non-resident visitors. This initiative positions Thailand as a regional leader in crypto-friendly tourism infrastructure while maintaining centralized oversight—a delicate balance between innovation and control.
